Sex Therapy Defined
Sex Therapy is a specialized form of psychotherapy that focuses on addressing a wide range of issues related to sex, sexuality, and gender for individuals and couples. It encompasses the exploration of psychological, relational, and emotional factors that underlie various sexual dysfunctions, including but not limited to erectile dysfunction, premature ejaculation, and delayed ejaculation in men.
In the case of women, it covers Genito-pelvic pain/penetration disorder, female sexual desire/arousal disorder, and orgasmic disorder, as classified in the DSM-5. Additionally, sex therapy is effective in assisting individuals dealing with compulsive and unmanageable sexual behaviors. It also serves as a valuable modality for helping couples foster romantic connection and intimacy. Moreover, sex therapy offers support for individuals grappling with challenges related to sexual orientation and gender-related issues.
